The Montefalco Rosso DOC
wine It is obtained from Sangiovese grapes from 60% to 70%, and Sagrantino from 10 to 15%, and other non-aromatic red grape varieties, recommended or authorized for the Province of Perugia.
The Montefalco Bianco DOC wine must be obtained from Grechetto (min. 50%), Trebbiano toscano (20%-35%) and other non-aromatic white grape varieties, recommended or authorized for the province of Perugia. It is a good wine when young and has an aging capacity of two or three years. Montefalco Rosso is a wine with aging capacity that can evolve in the bottle, if well preserved, for 5 or more years.
The Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG
designation of origin is reserved for wines produced with pure Sagrantino grapes, grown in an area that includes lands in the municipality of Montefalco. It is a very small area with lands that slope gently along the hilly profiles with altitudes from 220 m. above sea level to 472 of the highest hills, presided over by ancient medieval villages.
Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG wine is produced in the Secco and Passito typologies. It is subjected to a mandatory aging period of at least 33 months, of which, for the Secco typology only, at least twelve months in oak barrels of any size. For the Passito version, in addition to natural drying, the practice of humidity control is permitted. However, the use of heating is prohibited. Sagrantino is a wine for long aging thanks to its set of natural antioxidants and evolves up to 10-15 years.
