Wine tasting Montepulciano

The main wines are Nobile di Montepulciano (DOCG) and Rosso di Montepulciano (DOC), produced in the area around the town, where you can enjoy wine tasting Montepulciano . Nobile di Montepulciano is made with Sangiovese grapes (locally called Prugnolo Gentile), and its tasting can reveal fruity, floral, and spicy notes.

The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG designation of origin is reserved for red and red reserve wines made from grapes of the Sangiovese grape (primarily belonging to the biotype known as Prugnolo Gentile) for at least 70% and a maximum of 30% red and white grape varieties (max. 5%). Aromatic varieties, with the exception of Malvasia Bianca Lunga, are excluded, and authorized for cultivation in the Tuscany region.

Among the complementary grape varieties, several black grape varieties have been identified over time, both native (Canaiolo Nero, Mammolo) and international, capable of enhancing the potential of the terroir and the base grape. The Vino Nobile area falls entirely within the municipality of Montepulciano, in the province of Siena.

The entire area dedicated to the production of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano lies within the hilly area between 250 and 600 meters above sea level. Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG must be aged for at least two years, at least one of which must be in wooden vats. It must also be aged for at least three years, of which at least one year must be in wooden vats and six months in the bottle.
