Wine tasting Biella

The province of Biella is adjacent to the mountain range of the Biella Alps that overlook the nearby Monte Rosa and guarantee the underlying territory significant water resources and here you can do Biella wine tasting. To the southwest the hill range called the Serra di Ivrea separates the Biella area from the Canavese area; to the east and south there are plains cultivated mainly with rice and corn.

In the province of Biella there are two wine-growing areas planted mainly with Nebbiolo and Erbaluce the first includes the denominations Coste della Sesia DOC and Canavese DOC, the second for the denominations Bramaterra DOC and Lessona DOC. Lessona DOC Lessona is a rare and precious wine, produced in the homonymous hilly area a few kilometers from Biella.

This wine must be aged for a period of about two years and is colored Coste della Sesia DOC The controlled designation of origin Coste della Sesia DOC is reserved for red or rosé wines, for white wine obtained from grapes coming from vineyards composed exclusively of the Erbaluce vine, for “Nebbiolo” or “Spanna”, for “Vespolina”, for “Bonarda” or “Uva rara”, for Croatina”.

Bramanterra DOC
Bramanterra is a tasty, velvety wine, with a characteristic garnet red color and a pleasant bitterish aftertaste. It comes from the Nebbiolo grape variety which, thanks to the particular nature of the soil, has its natural habitat in this area.

Canavese DOC
Canavese can be “Rosso”, “Rosato”, “Bianco”, “Nebbiolo” and “Barbera”. The latter is appreciated with red meats, cured meats and mature cheeses.

Erbaluce di Caluso o Caluso DOCG
Erbaluce di Caluso or “Caluso” DOCG is produced with grapes from vineyards composed exclusively of the Erbaluce vine, one of the few white vines present in Piedmont.
