The soils of the Langhe are generally calcareous and white, while in the lower Langa, they are morainic of sub-acid nature. Barbaresco DOCG The production area includes
the municipalities of Barbaresco, Neive, Treiso and part of the San Rocco Senodelvio hamlet in the municipality of Alba. The grape variety is 100% Nebbiolo in the sub-varieties lampia, michet and rosé. Barbaresco, also available in the Riserva typology, tends to express different personalities depending on the specific “cru” of origin, including Rabajà, Asili, Martinenga, Moccagatta, Montefico, Montestefano, Roccalini, Secondine, Gallina. Before being put on the market, Barbaresco is subjected to a maturation of at least two years, one of which in oak wood, and after four it can be defined as “Riserva”. It reaches its best between 5 and 10 years, but it can also be long-lived.
Barolo DOCG whose wine is known
throughout the world as one of the great Italian wines par excellence. Barolo is obtained from the pure Nebbiolo grape in the sub-varieties lampia, michet and rosé. The denomination includes 11 municipalities, Barolo, Castiglione Falletto, Serralunga d’Alba, part of Cherasco, Diano d’Alba, Grinzane Cavour, La Morra, Monforte d’Alba, Novello, Roddi and Verduno.
Barolo producers are divided into two “schools of thought”. On one hand, there are those who focus on “tradition”, preferring a more robust and tannic wine, to be aged for a long time in large barrels; on the other hand, those who focus on “innovation” use small barrels, to obtain a slightly softer and gentler wine, designed for more immediate consumption.
Dogliani DOCG, Diano d’Alba DOCG, Roero and Roero Arneis DOCG are the other most important denominations in the province of Cuneo. Barbera d’Alba DOC, Dolcetto d’Alba DOC, Verduno Pelaverga DOC, Nebbiolo d’Alba DOC and many others.
