The red grapes are Pignolo, Schioppetino, Terrano, Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, Tazzalenghe, Merlot and Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon

Friuli Venezia Giulia boasts 4 Controlled and Guaranteed Designations of Origin (DOCG) and 9 Controlled Designations of Origin (DOC).

The most important wine-growing areas of the region are located in the provinces of Gorizia and Udine: they are respectively the territories called Collio and Colli Orientali.
