WINE TASTING GARDA LAKE
The cultivation of vines in the area dates back to Roman times, but it was only in the 19th century that the wine production of the area began to be explicitly identified with the name of “Bardolino”. The modern history of Bardolino officially began in 1968, when the Protected Designation of Origin “Bardolino” was established. Bardolino is a brilliant ruby red wine, with fruity aromas, spicy, with balance, freshness, and considerable drinkability. It is, par excellence, a youthful and lively wine, with an inimitable salty flavor. Chiaretto is the rosé version of Bardolino: it is obtained with minimal maceration of the skins, which thus release only a part of their natural coloring substances into the must.
In the Lake Garda area
the climate is characterized by a “Mediterranean” climate with hot but not muggy summers and mild winters, so much so as to also allow the cultivation of olives.
Within the production area, the Classic area stands out around the municipality of Bardolino, that is, the area with the oldest tradition, which being closest to the lake has particular climatic and environmental characteristics and the geographical area of the DOC Lugana falls on the border between the regions of Lombardy and Veneto and overlooks Lake Garda.
The territory is almost homogeneous, predominantly flat. The formation was originated by an immense glacier that descended from the Adige valley, of which a smaller branch occupied the entire current basin of Lake Garda. This glacier subsequently retreated several times and then returned in subsequent periods forming today’s Lake Garda and the hills adjacent to it.
In the DOC Lugana the microclimate is positively influenced by the temperate breezes of Lake Garda and is ideal for its mildness and low incidence of temperature variations between day and night. The temperatures and its meteorological conditions are in many ways more similar to those of the Mediterranean climate. In fact, Garda is characterized by a Mediterranean-type flora: olive trees and lemons thrive almost everywhere in the lakeside towns.
Furthermore, during the summer you can taste wines outdoors while enjoying the views.
Visiting the cellars is definitely an experience not to be missed.
