Moscato d’Asti, also known as Asti Spumante, is mainly produced in the area of the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato hills, specifically in 51 municipalities in the provinces of Asti, Alessandria and Cuneo, where you can do wine tasting to Moscato d’Asti Wineries.
MOSCATO D’ASTI is the most famous Moscato in Italy and is one of the most characteristic products of Piedmontese winemaking. A true tribute to the tradition that, over time, has reached extraordinary levels of quality. The grape variety from which Moscato d’Asti DOCG is born is Moscato Bianco, an aromatic grape variety widespread throughout the Mediterranean basin since ancient times. This name derives from the Latin “muscum” (moss), in reference to its typical scent and aroma, and it is one of the most famous Piedmontese wines in the world.
The difference between MOSCATO and Spumante d’Asti lies in the residual sugar, higher in Moscato (less fermented sugars, therefore more sugar and less alcohol), and in the different degree of effervescence, greater in Asti spumante. In regulatory terms, the first is a sparkling wine and the second a spumante. The specifications of the DOCG denominations include specific types of wine, which are characterized by the vines allowed for their production, the winemaking procedures and the specific organoleptic characteristics of the wine. Vines that are included in the composition of Moscato d’Asti DOCG wine are 100% Moscato bianco.
