The production area where you can wine tasting to Langhe Wineries, includes the entire province of Cuneo. Wines of the Langhe are famous for their quality and native vines, such as Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera. The area is particularly known for Barolo and Barbaresco, produced with Nebbiolo grapes, and for red wines based on Dolcetto and Barbera.
The history of wine in the Langhe can be traced back to the time of the settlement of the Liguri Statielli; with the arrival of the Celts, viticulture and winemaking were improved. Julius Caesar, on his return from the Gallic wars, stocked up on local wine in Alba Pompeia.
The Langhe have a variety of soils that are uncommon in any other Italian wine-growing area and perhaps in the world. According to some scholars, the term Langhe derives from “Langues“, strips of land that develop in a play of profiles modulated by the changing seasons, on the hills overlooking the Tanaro river. Langhe is the only disciplinary in the area to have an ampelographic base that includes all the vines traditionally grown in the area. Nebbiolo is grown in the heart of the Langhe and Roero and its grapes produce Roero, Barbaresco and Barolo DOCG, Nebbiolo D’ALBA and Langhe Nebbiolo DOC. In addition to Nebbiolo in the Langhe you can taste: Dolcetto, Barbera, Freisa, Arneis, Favorita, Pelaverga, Nascetta, Pinot Nero and Chardonnay.
