Arezzo Wineries

The province of Arezzo is home to many of Tuscany’s most important designations of origin, where you can enjoy wine tasting in the Arezzo Wineries . The province of Arezzo has only one DOCG: Chianti DOCG, in the Colli Aretini subzone.

This DOC corresponds to Vin Santo del Chianti DOC, also in the Colli Aretini subzone. Arezzo also includes part of the Colli dell’Etruria Centrale DOC appellation, shared with the provinces of Florence, Pistoia, Pisa, Prato, and Siena. This area roughly corresponds to that of Chianti DOCG, of which it is therefore the DOC’s successor, offering a broader range of wines and less stringent yield and aging requirements than the corresponding DOCG.

Exclusive to the province of Arezzo is the Val d’Arno di Sopra DOC, with the Pietraviva and Pratomagno subzones. It is based on the grape varieties traditionally grown in the area, namely a wide range of wines that includes Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Malvasia, and Trebbiano for white wines; Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc for red wines, which are expressed in 37 different types.

Moving on to the IGT designations in the province of Arezzo, the first is Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT, shared with the provinces of Florence, Pistoia, Prato, and Siena. Finally, the regional designation Toscano or Toscana IGT, which encompasses all permitted wine types using grape varieties authorized for cultivation in the Tuscany region.
