Immersed in the flourishing vineyards of the Sandonna plateau, from which it takes its name, lies the Sandonna winery, a newly constructed facility originally inaugurated in 2006, with roots dating back to the early 1960s.
The winery is built on Paciacconi-Giuliani family’s passion for working the land and cultivating vines, a passion passed down by grandfather Enrico, a master cooper, and inherited by his son Franco and grandson Alessandro.
Meticulous attention to detail and strict adherence to tradition have led to the rejection of invasive agricultural practices including the use of herbicides, favoring classic, age old production techniques. Coupled with this are modern stainless steel fermenters alongside expertly restored old vitrified concrete vats. The heart of the winery extends into the underground barrel cellar where wines deserving of longer aging times mature in oak barrels.
The planting of new vineyards protects and enhances native varieties. Ciliegiolo and Grechetto have become the reference grape, fully exploiting the geological and climatic potential of the Sandonna plateau and fostering agriculture that respects both tradition and the environment. The vineyards are cultivated using the classic Guyot training method, where manual practices prevail—from pruning to the selection of shoots and clusters, to leaf thinning and harvesting, and even hoeing around the vines. An activity largely abandoned elsewhere.
The richness of the soil means that fertilization is unnecessary; only green manure is used to provide the nutrients for the vines.
The cool, breezy climate and clay enriched soil, rich in organic matter, creates the ideal environment for our Merlot, while Montepulciano d’Abruzzo has been chosen to represent the winery with a wine of bold, uncompromising character.

We had their wine for the first time a few days ago and loved it. So much so that we looked it up and went to their winery. What a great idea as it is beautifully situated and the winemaker extremely hospitable. We had a lovely little trip and now fantastic wine which we like even more now that we know its origins

Sandonna is not to miss! I’ve drank way too much wine over the past few months while I’ve lived in this lovely country, and the Selve di Giove wine by Sandonna is by far one of the best, if not THE BEST, this country has to offer. This winery takes attentive care during the wine making process and it can be seen with the wonderful tastes they have to offer.
Giove is a lovely town with lovely folk. The winery/vineyard on the other end of town, Le Crete, is also not something to miss! These hills have great people, great history, great olive oil, and great wine!

I won’t go to the extend to say this is one of the best wine maker in Italy but certainly for its’ price range, it’s very enjoyable wine to drink. Maybe one of the best from the 10euro range.

Sandonna is a family winery business, with several wines of very good quality for the price. Important to highlight the whole winery is run by the family, no industrial processes, no chemicals applied to the wines and the grapes are handpicked. Spin off from the highway and pay them a visit in the real Italian countryside.
